Not Promising Dawn

Works on Paper by Sara Marie Miller
Grumpy’s: Fashion District
April 20- May 24

All pieces are unique monotypes with gouache
and colored pencil on Shikoku Japanese paper.

This series of prints, “Not Promising Dawn” are all unique pieces. Many began as simple monotypes which I then layer and develop further with relief printing, stenciling, painting and drawing. They are inspired by photos taken of spaces in my apartment, in my studio and from a recent road trip. The photos act as a foundation for the compositions, which evolve and become less about the photo and more about exploring color, texture and reinterpreting the physical world. The pieces acknowledge the apocalyptic nature of modern life and are meant to provide a glimmer of hope but no promises.
